WELCOME TO MY PAGE!

'tiririt' was how I referred to the sounds of the birds early in the morning. As a child then, I loved watching the birds hopping to and fro; flying from one tree to another, or alighting gaily on the flowering branches as they made their sweet 'tiririts' flood the place like music expressing varied emotions....

Sorting the Men from the Boys

The national election of 2010 has generally been a success. The flaws in the process were quite a number but those were minor ones that were confined to the voting centers itself. It cannot be denied though that many were not able to cast their votes because of the delays but
whatever their reasons were it will be moot and academic to discuss them now.

Election brings in new leaders elected by the people. We have chosen; therefore, we have done our part. Let those who win show the best that he can do in his elective office. Let them prove the truth in their campaign promises. Being mandated by the people to serve carries stocks of responsibilities for the elected officials as much as it carries important points for consideration for their constituents.

May 10, 2010 is the first election in the country where we have used an advanced technology – the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine. Our people realized their strength again as a civilized and nonviolent group of people. They showed that important aspect of their national spirit of unity by being together in choosing their leaders through a peaceful procedure. Even if others decided to leave the voting areas to go home after waiting long, many have stayed. Although there were reports of some violent reactions in other municipalities by the losing faction they remained isolated and were addressed soon.

The candidates have also matured. With the early announcement of the election results, in the Province of Iloilo alone, as early as 9:30 in the morning of May 11, 2010, the newly elected officials of the municipality of San Miguel were already proclaimed officially as winners. By 10:40 in the morning, Senator Manny Villar showed the gentleman in him by being the first national aspirant and presidential candidate to concede his defeat in favor of Senator Noynoy Aquino. He called on his supporters over the airwaves to support the government and its projects. Moreover, he called on everyone to forget election matters and to move on for a better Philippines.  In the City of Iloilo, Undersecretary Larry Jamora, a mayoralty candidate was the first to admit his defeat in favor of another candidate, Jed Patrick Mabilog. These gentlemen are commendable.

Indeed, the automated election in its first ever had created quite a stir in the people, a few doubts before the election and some misunderstanding of instructions during the process, but, definitely after this, the nation will be moving forward. I hope, with the reign of the new president, we will have a better national management where we can say that those who have voted for him will walk proud and those who did not will have a reason to say that they have misjudged him. Congratulations to all the winners of this 2010 election.

Finally, next election, we all look forward to a better and faster election process where all the people entitled to vote can cast a vote without so much waiting under the heat.

MABUHAY KA PILIPINAS!
